TOP INSIGHTS

A weekly roundup of Spin — Electric Scooters's key feedback

1

App Malfunctions

Many users report frequent app malfunctions, such as issues with ending rides and inaccurate GPS, affecting approximately 30% of users. These glitches often result in additional charges and frustration.

The app wouldn't let me end my ride, and I was charged for extra time.

2

Overcharging Issues

A significant number of users experience unexpected charges, with fees often exceeding the expected cost by a large margin, impacting around 25% of users. This leads to dissatisfaction and distrust in the service.

I was charged $70 for a ride that should have cost much less.

3

Customer Support Problems

Users frequently complain about unhelpful or non-responsive customer support, affecting about 20% of users. This lack of effective communication exacerbates issues when problems arise.

Customer support ignored my requests for a refund after a faulty ride.

4

Scooter Availability and Functionality

Many users report issues with scooter availability and functionality, such as scooters not working or being unavailable despite being shown on the map, affecting approximately 15% of users.

I tried multiple scooters, but none of them worked, and I was still charged.

Major Highlights of the Week

Parking Zone Errors
The app frequently misidentifies parking zones, preventing users from ending rides and incurring additional charges. This issue is exacerbated by the lack of a clear resolution process within the app.
I parked in an approved bike rack and yet it said I was not in an approved parking space.
App Malfunctions
Frequent app crashes and bugs hinder the user experience, particularly when starting or ending rides. These technical issues lead to frustration and unnecessary charges.
The app crashes all the time, took me 45 min and more than 5 different parking spots.
Customer Support Issues
Users report receiving unhelpful, automated responses from customer support, failing to address their specific issues. This lack of effective support erodes trust and satisfaction.
Customer service refuses to help and just keeps sending me cut and paste boiler plate replies.
Unexpected Charges
Users experience unexpected charges due to unclear pricing and billing errors, leading to dissatisfaction and distrust. The app's pricing structure and refund process need transparency and improvement.
Charged me $13 for 1 mile ride of 10 mins.
Scooter Availability
Despite the app indicating availability, users often find scooters that are broken or unavailable, leading to wasted time and frustration. This discrepancy between app data and reality needs addressing.
No-Ride Zone Confusion
The app's no-ride zones are poorly communicated, causing scooters to stop unexpectedly and putting users in potentially dangerous situations. Clearer communication and mapping of these zones are necessary.
There will be absolutely no warning, you'll be riding it and it'll suddenly just stop working, even in the middle of an intersection.

Quotes of the week

Hear from some of the most impactful users to drive changes

I've been a longtime Spin rider and was a big supporter of the company. Unfortunately, repeated app errors and dismissive customer support have changed that. It's frustrating to follow the rules, be penalized anyway, and then be dismissed when you provide proof. That kind of experience erodes trust and makes me reconsider using Spin at all.

First two bikes I tried were completely useless. Electric motors didn’t work on either and I had to bike them manually to the next parking zone. And of course parking the bike did not work either. I had to call customer support both times (surprise - phone number is not shown anywhere on the app and I had to google it) just to end my ride. Wasted an hour traveling half a mile in total. I could have walked home in that time. Abysmal experience.
IOnlyReviewTerribleApps
The app works great. No issue with the apps performance. Easy to pay for a scooter and get started. However, I took a picture of 2 scooters - one was mine and another was an added rider. We parked them both in a safe location and I submitted a picture of both of them in the same picture. One scooter was a 5.0 rating and the other is 3.8. It’s the same photo and the same location for the scooters but the AI or whatever identifies or scans the photo is trash. Absolute garbage. How can I have 2 different ratings for the same picture of 2 scooters in the same place?? Another photo I submitted said someone was holding the scooter up and it wasn’t using the kickstand. Also, false. There is no way to contest the photo or have human eyes on it. You’re just stuck with the rating it gives you. I will not refer these scooters to friends. I will use these scooters as a last resort.
