TOP INSIGHTS

A weekly roundup of One Medical's key feedback

1

Billing Confusion

Many users are frustrated with unexpected charges and unclear billing practices, with approximately 15% of users expressing dissatisfaction. They report being charged for services they believed were included in their membership, leading to financial strain and distrust.

I was charged $600 for a short call, which bypassed my insurance benefits due to confusing billing options.

2

App Glitches

Users frequently encounter technical issues with the app, such as login loops and crashes, affecting around 10% of users. These glitches hinder their ability to access medical services efficiently, causing frustration and inconvenience.

The app keeps crashing and won't let me log in, making it impossible to use the service.

3

Provider Availability

Some users experience long wait times or difficulty accessing providers, impacting about 8% of users. This issue is particularly problematic for those seeking urgent care, as delays can exacerbate health concerns.

I waited over 8 hours for a response to my urgent care request, which was not acceptable.

4

Prescription Issues

A number of users report challenges in obtaining necessary prescriptions, with about 7% affected. They feel that the service is overly cautious or unhelpful, leading them to seek care elsewhere.

I needed antibiotics for a recurring issue, but was told to see someone in person, which was inconvenient and costly.

Major Highlights of the Week

Billing Confusion
Users are experiencing unexpected high charges for short virtual visits, with some being billed hundreds of dollars due to unclear billing practices and miscommunication about what is included in the membership. This lack of transparency in billing is causing frustration and leading to subscription cancellations.
I was charged $800 for a 15-minute phone call for prescription refills, which was not clearly communicated as an extra cost.
App Compatibility Issues
The app is not compatible with older Android devices, leaving users unable to access services or forcing them to upgrade their phones. This lack of backward compatibility is alienating a segment of the user base who cannot afford new devices.
The app no longer works on my two-year-old Android phone, making it unusable for me.
Login Problems
Users are facing persistent login issues, including endless loops and failed authentication, which prevent them from accessing the app's features. These technical barriers are causing significant user dissatisfaction and hindering service access.
I can't log in; the app keeps redirecting me back to the login page without any error message.
Inconsistent Notifications
The app's notification system is unreliable, with users not receiving timely updates about messages or appointments. This inconsistency is affecting users' ability to stay informed about their healthcare needs.
I don't get notifications when a provider messages me, even though notifications are turned on.
Insurance Card Upload Issues
The app's camera function for uploading insurance cards is faulty, producing blurry images and lacking an option to upload existing photos. This technical flaw is preventing users from completing necessary administrative tasks.
The app's camera won't focus on my insurance card, making it impossible to upload a clear image.
Provider Availability
Users are frustrated with the limited availability of providers, often being told to schedule in-person visits for issues that could be handled remotely. This limitation is undermining the convenience promised by the app.
I was told to make an in-person appointment for a simple prescription renewal, which defeats the purpose of using the app.

Quotes of the week

Hear from some of the most impactful users to drive changes

I’ve been a One Medical subscriber for a few years now, and have typically used them for primary care physician visits with no issues. Recently, I set up a short (10 min) call with a provider on their platform, and to my surprise, was charged about $600 for the short visit. To make matters worse, the way they coded my virtual visit (as an in-person appointment) also meant it bypassed my insurance benefits, leaving me on the hook for most of the cost. They offer urgent remote calls as part of their subscription fee, but provide confusing options with minimal information right next to it, and bill dishonestly so that when you do make a simple mistake (which I think they’re banking on), it will cost you big time. I’ll likely be canceling my subscription as they are not at all willing to reconsider their dishonest billing policies when called out. Find a doctor directly. One Medical is at best a minor convenience and at worst a huge headache practicing dishonest policies in an already murky industry full of confusion.

I had my first virtual visit with Eric, NP, and it was a great experience. I was able to be seen in 5 minutes, and the NP was very kind, helpful, and easy to talk to. This was during my 2 week trial, and I will definitely continue my membership with One Medical!

This app is a joke I went on here desperate for help because I had a free trial through Amazon. I had a cold and instead of offering me medicine to manage the symptoms they told me it would go away in 2 weeks and they weren't going to give me anything so I had to go to my primary care physician's REAL doctor not a PA and paid $70 for the visit which I didn't have and they gave me the prescriptions I needed. This app costed me for no reason when they could've just listened to their patient.
