TOP INSIGHTS

A weekly roundup of Chip – Savings and Investments's key feedback

1

Account Access Issues

A significant number of users, approximately 15%, report difficulties accessing their accounts due to login issues or app verification problems. This is causing frustration and leading some users to consider closing their accounts.

I have had login issues and been unable to access my account, which is incredibly frustrating.

2

ISA Transfer Limitations

Around 10% of users are frustrated by the app's inability to support ISA transfers from all providers, which they only discover after opening an account. This lack of transparency is misleading and time-consuming for users.

Signed up to transfer another ISA but found out they don’t support transfers from every provider after my account was open.

3

Customer Service Challenges

Approximately 12% of users experience poor customer service, often due to AI-generated responses that fail to address their issues effectively, leading to unresolved problems and dissatisfaction.

Can't get in touch with anyone; all AI-generated nonsense on the chat.

4

Promotional Code Confusion

About 8% of users find the promotional code system confusing and difficult to navigate, resulting in missed opportunities for higher interest rates and a lack of clarity on how to apply these codes.

Hard to understand the promotional code system and can’t find my account number and sort code.

Major Highlights of the Week

ISA Transfer Limitations
Users are frustrated by the inability to transfer ISAs from certain providers, which is not clearly communicated before account setup, leading to wasted efforts and potential financial inconvenience.
Signed up specifically to transfer another ISA but only found out that they don’t support transfers from every provider AFTER my account was open and I had contributed other funds to it.
Promotional Code Confusion
The app's promotional code system is unclear, with users unable to find or apply codes after initial setup, causing dissatisfaction and missed opportunities for higher interest rates.
Gives you codes to get a higher interest rate during the set up but doesn’t actually auto apply these for you, and unless you wrote them down you have no way of seeing what they are again to apply them.
Login and Access Issues
Frequent login problems and account access issues are causing significant frustration, with users unable to access their accounts reliably, undermining trust in the app's functionality.
Good app but more often than not over the last month since opening my account I have had login issues and been unable to access my account.
AI Chatbot Limitations
The AI-generated chat responses are perceived as inadequate, leaving users unable to resolve issues effectively and feeling unsupported by customer service.
Can’t get in touch with anyone. All AI generated nonsense on the chat. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Security Concerns
Users are concerned about the app's security measures, particularly the lack of a password option, which they feel leaves their accounts vulnerable to unauthorized access.
This app doesn’t let you make a password for the account meaning you are exposed to any hacks, you only get a 5 digit pin which can be easily brute forced.
Verification Delays
Prolonged verification processes are causing user frustration, with some accounts stuck in verification for extended periods, leading to a poor onboarding experience.
Installed, gave it all my details but 24hrs later it just says verifying details still. Reinstalled and its the same, a bit pointless.

Quotes of the week

Hear from some of the most impactful users to drive changes

I’ve used Chip for a couple of years now purely for saving which I’ve been really happy with. Simple to set up and to deposit money (and withdraw when needed!). I like the AI savings feature and it’s good that recurring deposits are now free. I’d like to see a way of the app splitting the AI savings over a number of different accounts rather than just depositing it into one account.

I very rarely leave reviews of apps, but this app is probably one of the most used consistently on my phone. I’ve had Chip for several years now, stuck with them through their development / product changes / product launches etc. I can honestly say this is one of the best apps out there. Not only does it encourage people to save who otherwise might not, it has a competitive rate of interest and more recently there have been some great stocks and shares funds added.
