A weekly roundup of Hypic - Photo Editor & AI Art's key feedback

1

Subscription Issues

Many users are experiencing unauthorized charges and difficulties in canceling subscriptions, leading to frustration and financial inconvenience. Approximately 10% of users have reported issues related to unexpected billing and refund requests.

I was charged for a subscription I didn't intend to purchase, and it's been difficult to get a refund.

2

Feature Accessibility

Users are frustrated with the shift of previously free features to paid ones, making the app less accessible without a subscription. This change has affected about 15% of users who relied on free features.

The app used to be great, but now most features require a subscription, which is disappointing.

3

App Performance

Some users report that the app frequently crashes or becomes unresponsive, especially after updates, hindering their ability to edit photos effectively. This issue affects around 5% of users.

The app crashes often, making it impossible to use the editing tools.

4

AI Feature Limitations

The AI features, which are a major selling point, sometimes fail to work as expected, leading to user dissatisfaction. Approximately 7% of users have mentioned issues with AI features not functioning properly.

The AI features don't work at all, which is disappointing since that's why I downloaded the app.

Major Highlights of the Week

Unauthorized Charges
Users are experiencing unauthorized deductions from their accounts, often without prior notice or consent, leading to financial distress. This issue is causing significant dissatisfaction and trust issues with the app's billing practices.
I lost ₱300 from my GCash account without any prior notice or authorization, and it was deducted by Hypic.
Feature Accessibility
Previously free features are now locked behind a paywall, frustrating long-time users who feel forced to subscribe to access basic functionalities. This shift is perceived as a bait-and-switch tactic, diminishing user trust and satisfaction.
This app used to be great, but now most features are locked behind Pro, making it unusable without a subscription.
App Stability Issues
The app frequently crashes or becomes unresponsive, particularly after updates, which disrupts the editing process and frustrates users. This instability undermines the app's reliability and user experience.
The latest update causes Hypic to frequently error and crash, especially when editing using filters or effects.
Misleading Free Trials
Users are misled by the free trial offers, which automatically convert to paid subscriptions without clear communication or consent. This practice is leading to unexpected charges and user dissatisfaction.
I thought the free trial would end after a week, but it automatically charged my account without warning.
AI Feature Malfunctions
AI features, which are a major selling point of the app, often fail to work as intended, leading to user frustration and disappointment. This issue questions the app's core value proposition and technological reliability.
None of the AI features work at all; they just load until you get a 'something went wrong' message.
High Subscription Costs
The cost of subscriptions is perceived as high compared to competitors, deterring users from upgrading and leading to negative comparisons. This pricing strategy may be alienating potential long-term subscribers.
Great app but subscription is expensive, may be double the competition!

Hear from some of the most impactful users to drive changes

I loved this app for editing my photos. I found it weird while I was doing multiple photos all of a sudden everything changed and now I can use the features I used before. Should’ve left it alone now everything is AI.

So many apps make all their useful features only available on pro. I don’t want to spend money, and this app gives me no issues. Super useful and easy to use. Highly recommend

This app used to be great, until recently, where most features were locked behind Pro, and the most recent update made it so everytime I exit out of an overlay, it begs me to turn off an 'image-to-video effect', though I don't know how. Even reinstalling (which caused me to lose all my data because I don't use Facebook or TikTok) didn't fix it.
