TOP INSIGHTS

A weekly roundup of Ableton Note's key feedback

1

Limited Bars

A significant number of users are frustrated by the limitation of only 8 bars per track, which restricts their ability to create longer compositions. Approximately 10% of users have expressed dissatisfaction with this constraint, finding it a major hindrance to their workflow.

I naturally thought you would be able to increase the bars, but alas, it appears there are only 8 bars max which makes this app unusable for me.

2

Velocity Control Issues

Users have reported conflicts between the swipe up/down control for velocity and the drag-and-drop note action, making it difficult to adjust velocity without affecting note placement. This issue affects about 8% of users, who find it hampers their ability to fine-tune their music.

The swipe up/down control for velocity very much conflicts with the drag and drop note action.

3

Audio Playback Problems

Some users are unable to get any audio output from the app, despite trying various troubleshooting steps. This issue affects approximately 5% of users, who are unable to use the app effectively due to this critical functionality gap.

I have not been able to get it to play audio a single time since downloading it.

4

Interface Complexity

The app's interface is considered unintuitive by some users, particularly those unfamiliar with Ableton's ecosystem. Around 7% of users find the app's design and navigation challenging, which slows down their learning curve and overall productivity.

A mobile Ableton app is a great idea but this version is not very intuitive and leaves much to desire.

Major Highlights of the Week

Limited Bars
The app restricts users to a maximum of 8 bars, which limits the ability to create longer compositions and is a dealbreaker for some users. This limitation makes the app unusable for those who need more extensive musical arrangements.
I naturally thought you would be able to increase the bars, but alas, it appears there are only 8 bars max which makes this app unusable for me.
Velocity Control Conflict
The swipe up/down control for velocity conflicts with the drag-and-drop note action, causing usability issues. Users desire the ability to toggle off the velocity swipe functionality to prevent accidental note movements.
One suggestion is the swipe up/down control for velocity very much conflicts with the drag and drop note action.
Missing Audio Clips
The app lacks support for audio clips, which limits its functionality for users who want to incorporate audio samples into their projects. This absence is a significant drawback for those looking to use the app for comprehensive music production.
Please add support for audio clips!
Bluetooth Headphone Sync
There are issues with syncing the app to Bluetooth headphones, which affects the ability to work quietly and efficiently. Improved Bluetooth integration would enhance the user experience significantly.
If at all possible I think the main improvement needed is better syncing with Bluetooth headphones.
Sample Manipulation Limitations
Users are unable to move or delete loaded samples using the pad, limiting their ability to manipulate samples effectively. This restriction hinders the creative process for beat makers who rely on sample-based production.
When you load a sample you can’t move it around or delete it with the pad.
App Crashes
The app frequently crashes, especially when creating bass tracks, leading to frustration and disruption in the creative process. Stability improvements are necessary to ensure a reliable user experience.
App continues to crash when creating bass tracks.

Quotes of the week

Hear from some of the most impactful users to drive changes

Ever since they added a MIDI editor, I've been having fun with this app to make music. It's nice having the ability to jot ideas down while I'm at the gym, upload to Ableton Cloud, and continue on my Mac using Live later. One suggestion is the swipe up/down control for velocity conflicts with the drag and drop note action. I wish I could toggle velocity swipe functionality off.

A friend recommended this app, and I've been really enjoying it - sketching a musical idea is really fun and satisfying. The UI takes a minute to get used to, but it's neatly minimalist and I keep discovering new little details about it. One feature suggestion: being able to define a specific number of times a clip should loop when exporting the audio would be great.

As a long-time Ableton user, this app has been a godsend for me lately. It sparks inspiration and keeps it flowing well. If someone isn’t familiar with Ableton and the way it looks and functions, this may not be the most intuitive and easy-to-learn app, but with a little patience, it’s not hard to figure out. The cloud feature is my absolute favorite.
